Why do you think social media is so important for event organizers?

We are really lucky, there are a lot of organizations and industries that can’t take advantage of social media. And the main reason they can’t is because they don’t have content to direct people to. Now all a conference or business exhibition/business event does is generate content. So we’ve got to use social media to direct people towards that content. And we’re in such a fortunate position that things like this, 90 Seconds, a couple of minutes, a short presentation, these are all the types of things that are so easy to do when you organize a conference.

You’ve got so much content and social media is the most wonderful way of directing people towards that. It allows the attendee to tailor the information. And I’ll mention that an event has to be much longer than just a physical event and social media is a wonderful way of extending that. But it also helps delegates engage with their exhibitors.

Now in the past that was very much up to the organizer who had to send the list or not send the list or arrange something. But having everyone engaged in social media puts a lot of power in the hands of the delegate and they can contact the exhibitor or the sponsor if they want, they can follow them, they can engage with them.

So its one of the most crucial elements for every event. Every business event should be engaging social media as much as possible.
