Last year our friends at Tweaky rolled out a fantastic initiative called The Founders Apprentice. Essentially they gave an opportunity to someone who wanted to learn the ropes of a funded startup across six months, in return for a wage and working your butt off.
At Attendly, we are in serious need of some more resources to help us turn our vision into reality. So we are hiring, right now, for a Founders Apprentice.
TL:DR; If you are driven, super smart, based in Melbourne and hungry for experience in a growing, VC backed startup, then we want to hire you to come and work with us for at least a 12 month period.
This is a paid position.
What would a founders apprentice do?
Whoo boy. What wouldn’t you do?
Dave Mcclure is spot on with his 500 hats approach: “The name “500 Hats” refers to the many hats that entrepreneurs have to wear as they get a new startup venture off the ground”.
There is very little you wouldn’t be exposed to here, so get ready to wear a LOT of hats. First off, you would be working directly with the CEO and co-founder of the business (hey – that’s me!). That means this role does not require coding skills, although if you can find your way around wordpress and HTML, we wouldn’t complain.
Tasks you definitely would do include:
- Customer support (phone and email)
- Content wrangling and marketing
- Hustling (you gotta hustle)
- Customer acquisition
- Social media updates and community management
- Analytics and metrics reviews
- AB testing setup and measurement
- Debt collection
- Blogger outreach
- Content creation
- Management of freelancers
- Wire frames
- Project management
The role is for someone who knows how to get shit done.
It’s for someone passionate about startups.
It’s for someone who wants to get intimately involved in the day to day running of a fast growth company with funding, revenue and customers who love us.
Most importantly, you don’t have to know how to do any of the tasks listed above right now. If you are the right person, we will teach you everything.
What’s in it for the person you hire?
This is an opportunity to learn about startups from the inside. Twelve months here will be the best training ground you can have for running your own company in the future.
Want to come along to board meetings? We can do that.
Want to join the CEO on skype when he chats to company advisors? No problem.
Keen to learn how to use content marketing to drive online acquisition? We are happy to teach you.
How to apply
Here is how to start the process. Send an email to me (Scott at Attendly dot com) with the following:
- The best email subject line you have ever seen
- A copy of your CV (LinkedIn URL is fine)
- The name of someone who we both know, who would vouch for you as being right for this job (hint: check my LinkedIn profile or ask around in the startup community. If you cannot see my connections on LinkedIn, connect with me)
- A single paragraph of why you want this job
- Confirmation of when you could start
This job will be based out of Inspire9 in Richmond. Any questions before you apply can be emailed to me.
Please note that applications for this role are now closed. We may run this again early next year, so keep an eye out!
